Real Options

A real option is the right but not the obligation to purchase or sell a security at a predetermined price within a certain time frame. This gives the holder of the option the flexibility to wait and see how the market develops before making a decision. The holder can also choose to exercise the option if it is advantageous to do so. Real options are often used in business to make decisions about capital investments.
