Superconductivity

Superconductivity is the phenomenon of zero electrical resistance in certain materials at low temperatures. When a current flows through a superconductor, it can flow indefinitely without losing energy.

This makes superconductors ideal for use in electric power transmission and storage. Superconductivity was first discovered in 1911 by Dutch physicist Heike Kamerlingh Onnes, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics for his work.
