Quantum Chromodynamics

Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) is the fundamental theory of strong interactions between quarks. It is a relativistic quantum field theory, and combines the principles of quantum mechanics and special relativity.

QCD is based on the exchange of particles called gluons, which interact with quarks to bind them together. The strength of the force between quarks decreases as the distance between them increases, reaching zero at infinite separation.
