Large deviations theory is a statistical model that describes how a sample fluctuates from its mean. The model provides a way to understand how the results of an experiment or survey can differ from what would be expected if the data were drawn from a population with the same mean.
The model is used to explain why some samples are more likely to deviate from the mean than others.
