L-estimator

An “L-estimator” is a statistical technique used to make inference about a population from a sample. It is based on the assumption that the errors in estimating a parameter from a sample are not systematically different from one sample to another.

The L-estimator is useful when the population from which the sample was drawn may not be representable by a normal curve and hence, may not be amenable to classical statistical methods.
