Inverse Transform Sampling

Inverse transform sampling is a sampling method for estimating the population parameter of interest from a set of samples.

It is analogous to the standard technique of selecting a representative sample, but with the crucial difference that the inverse transformation yields estimates of the population parameter that are unbiased and consistent with those that would be obtained if we took all possible samples from the population.
