Gittins index

The Gittins index is a statistic used to measure the dispersion of a population. It is named after its creator, J.G.Gittins.

The Gittins index is calculated by dividing the sum of squares of the differences between each observation and the mean of that observation by the number of observations. Values above 1 indicate greater dispersion than values below 1, and vice versa.
