Deviation

Statistical deviation reflects the variability of a population or sample. It can be measured in terms of either the mean or the median.

The mean is the most commonly used measure, and it shows how much a data set differs from its expected value, which is usually denoted by the median.

The median is more informative when there are multiple possible values that could be chosen for the data, as it indicates which value is likely to be at or near the middle of the distribution.
