The detrended correspondence analysis (DCA) is a tool used in social science research to analyze the relationships between variables.
It is an entropy-based technique that decomposes the data into a series of time series (or, more commonly, correlation matrices), and examines the degree to which each series exhibits trends.
In essence, it allows for the examination of how changing variables impact one another over time.
