Derivative (finance)

Derivative finance is a branch of finance that deals with financial derivatives. Financial derivatives are contracts that allow for the exchange of one thing for another, often in return for a higher price.

The most common derivative is a call option, which allows the holder of a call to buy an asset for a set price, usually when the stock prices are low and the option is worth more when the stock prices are high.
